( ic ) date log
SO remember that time I lost internet for a week? Well, G and I were in the middle of Hope and Xion's first date and there was no way in hell we were stopping. So we continued in an email log! And since we know there are stalkers out there who might like to see this (and because we both think it is the cutest thing we've ever done), we're posting it up here! Yeah.
You sure? I don't mind buying another round.
I'd...feel bad if you do. If you buy something for me, I should buy something for you.
[Hope automatically is taken aback. The last thing he wants is Xion to feel bad. He was always told by his mother that the man should buy on the date, but he doesn't want to force all this on Xion when this is new for her. He quickly puts on a smile. Besides, he reasons, he has to be polite.] Alright, sure. When you put it that way. |
[she smiles warmly at him as she gets up, finishing the last bits of her popsicle.] Let's see what we can try. |
[He follows her like a lovesick puppy.... which he kind of is.] Okay! |
[good thing Xion would never even think of taking advantage of him...or, well, doing anything of the sort, really. she starts peeking at the flavors available—it always amazes her, how varied the selections can be.] What do you want to try? I'm good with anything. |
Hmmm.... [Hope looks at the varied selections.] I kinda wanna try that pecan one. It looks good. |
[she smiles as she recognizes the flavor as being one she's tried before.] Oh, I've had that one! The nuts surprised me at first, but it's good. |
Really? It's got nuts in it?
[she nods, pointing at the pecans buried in the ice cream.] The pecans are the nuts. |
Oh, cool! I like nuts. (OOC: SHUT UP!) Which one are you gonna have Xion? |
(LMFAO oh Hope ♥) I'm not sure... maybe the one with cookies? |
(HEY! All growing boys like nuts! They're full of protein!) Oh that sounds good. Maybe, I'll try that one next. |
(s...ure...) That sounds good to me! So those two, then? |
Sure! | |
Got it. [she goes up to the cashier and asks for two more servings of ice cream! when the transaction is over, she walks back over and hands him his treat. she's laughing a little.] They're surprised at how much we're ordering. |
[He laughs.] Maybe we should slow down a little after this? [He happily takes the ice cream from her.] Thanks. |
We should save some flavors for next time. [she nods in acknowledgment and starts heading back to their table.] |
[Follows her back like a- you know what I'm going to say, and starts digging in to his.] Oh, this is really good! |
You made a good choice. [as much as she would love to, she knows they can't talk about ice cream forever. she tries to think of something they can discuss, and ultimately goes back to the things he mentioned earlier.] Oh, yeah! I kept meaning to ask before—what was that "Glee" thing you mentioned in your network post? |
Oh. You know when Kurt and I sang on the network?
[another quick nod.] Yeah, I remember that. |
Well, a Glee club is basically a club where people sing like that. I wasn't sure if it was my thing at first, but Kurt convinced me to try singing with him, and it was really fun. So I thought I'd give it a try.
Oh, that does sound like fun! [her smile falters ever so slightly as she hesitates before she speaks again. she's not sure if she's being too forward.] Is it okay if I go with you next time? I want to see what it's like. |
[Hope pauses for a moment before breaking out in his usual dorky smile.] Yeah! Yeah of course you can! I'd love that! I mean, I'd have to ask Kurt to see if he's okay with it, but I can't think of why he'd say no. |
[she sees that smile and raises him one of her own.] I'm looking forward to it. |
[His smile becomes playful] Why? You don't want to sing do you? |
[hers turns sheepish as she rubs the back of her neck.] Trying new things is fun, and you liked it, so... |
[He laughs.] You're right, trying new things is fun. Well if you want to try it, you know I'll do whatever I can to help you. |
[she finishes her round of ice cream before continuing.] How do you do it? Sing, I mean. |
Huh? [He almosts asks if she's never sung before, but decides against it.] It's... kind of hard to explain. You take your voice and just make it... sound different. It's not something you really think about, it's more something you just... do. |
Something you just do? [she tilts her head to the side ever so slightly. it's true that she's never sung before; she knows what it is, it's just that she's never had to.] |
Yeah, it's kind of hard to put into words. [Suddenly Hope had an idea. A wonderfully horrible awful idea.] Hey. You wanna try singing? Right now? |
[Xion looks surprised—almost a little embarrassed—at the suggestion. she doesn't think anything bad of it, she's just thrown off a little by the suddenness.] Huh? |
[Suddenly Hope realizes just how stupid that idea is and becomes really embarassed.] I mean... it wouldn't be a whole song like what me and Kurt did. It would just be me teaching you how to make your voice... change. |
[on the other hand, the more she thinks about it, the more Xion seems to be getting better with the idea.] ...Okay. I was the one that said trying new things was fun, after all. |
R-really? We don't have to do it if you don't want to.
If I go with you to Glee, I'm going to have to sing eventually, right?
O-okay. Kurt's probably a way better teacher than me, but I'll do my best. S-so, try and do what I do. [And with that he sings out a note.] |
Okay... [she listens and then attempts to recreate the note. it's not perfect, but it's close enough and he'd be able to tell she's "singing."] |
[And of course Hope is all 8Ding at her.] That was really good Xion! |
[NO SEX, HOPE] Really? |
[D8] Yeah! You're really good at things you do for the first time. |
Thanks, Hope. That really means a lot to me. [and she's not just saying that—because she's so used to hearing she's a reject, his words truly are special to her.] |
I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.
What else are you supposed to do?
Well, usually you sing words that sometimes rhyme... and.... they sound nice and.... [He scratches the back of his neck] Sorry. It's something I know how to do, it's just hard to put into words. Did you wanna maybe try? |
Um... sure? [she returns the dorky smile.] |
Alright. Just repeat after me again. [and with that he very awkwardly sings the first line of the first song that comes to mind. The chocobo themesong.] Run like the wind just leave your cares behind |
[she mimics him, determined to do her best! she manages to hit the notes just like he does.]
That was great Xion! You nailed it.
I did? [her face lights up, happy that she got it.] |
Yeah! You wanna try singing another line?
Sure! | |
Alright, here's the next line: Take us around the world and back again |
[again, she eagerly repeats after him; she seems to be getting the hang of it now.]
[He smiles to show his appreciation for her efforts, but continues to keep her on her toes.] Promise together we will chase the sun |
[somehow, she's both relaxed and really concentrating as she continues singing the lines back at Hope, determined to not mess up.]
And make some green to share the ride in store
[she is getting reaaally into it now, putting "feeling" (ha ha) into her words; who would have thought she could be interested in something like this?]
[And just to mix it up, he sings the whole chorus.]Let's go find gil and fame |
[she's at first thrown off by there being more words than usual, BUT SHE DEALS and gets back into it pretty quickly!]
S-sorry. I got a little carried away, but you did great!
[there is surprise and happiness in her expression this time around!] Really? |
Yeah! You were awesome! That was the themesong from a cartoon on my world that little kids [and me, but I'm not telling you that] like.
[dude come on she watches Barney with Naminé, there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT in her book.] Thanks—! That was... really fun. |
I know, isn't it? Do you wanna ask Kurt if you can join, or do you just want to sit in a few times?
I'm...not really sure. I've never really talked to him before, so...
Well, we'll see. I think we may have an assignment coming up, so you can see how that goes. If you'd like I can introduce you to him. Don't worry, he's a really nice guy. You'll like him.
[at first she was a little sheepish about it, but after hearing him now she's able to lighten up a little.] All right. I'll take your word for it. |
Really? You're gonna try joining!?
Yeah. [she nods, determination in her eyes.] If you're there, I'll be fine.
[He pulls his arm around her in a sort of half-hug.] That makes me happy Xion. You know I'll do whatever I can to help you. |
[it only feels natural to her to sort of lean against him.] Thanks. |
[He squeezes her gently, as if he doesn't really believe she's there, but this is real. He never even imagined he'd be thinking this, but this is his girlfriend. He'd never even given having a girlfriend a second thought back on Cocoon, and yet, there she was. In his arms. And he couldn't have been happier. And it was only half of his free will that he suddenly found his lips slowly moving towards hers.] |
[she's at first surprised to see him moving toward her, but then she remembers—isn't this what boyfriends and girlfriends are supposed to do? she may not know much about love, but she's willing to learn.] [it's almost like a children's story: she, the puppet, falling in love with a normal person. —no, that's not right. she's not a puppet. she's got to stop telling herself that. she knows how much it upsets Hope to hear her talk about herself like that, which in turn upsets her. she doesn't think of him as a monster, and neither does he of her. he's just Hope, and she's just Xion. and that sort of simple recognition means the world to her.] [she allows their lips to touch.] |
[Hope loves this. Ignoring the fact that his first thoughts were "Please don't faint again", he held the girl he loved close to him and enjoyed the kiss whilst seconds seemed to turn into hours. Eventually he had to pull away, with regret in his eyes that the kiss had to end. He decided to say someting to break the ice.] That turned out better than the last time, huh? |
[as much as she wants it to go on, she knows they can't stay glued together forever. there were bound to be plenty of other opportunities later, anyway, right? after she pulls away, she sits there a little nervously, staring at her hands—but when hears his words, she looks back up and laughs.] I didn't black out. |
[He laughs a little bit.] And I didn't run away this time. |
Definitely better. | |
Not a bad first date huh?
If they're as fun as this one, we need to go on more.
I'd love that. | |
Me too. [she hesitates for a bit, then intertwines her fingers with his, smiling at him warmly.] |
[He's a bit surprised at first but he returns the gesture.] What do you wanna do now? |
[she figures she should try doing more girlfriend-like things more often. :|b] I don't know. What else are you supposed to do on dates? |
Um... [He's kind of sheepish.] I'm not sure. This is the first date I've ever been on. |
Maybe we should do some research later...
What kind of research? | |
There must be a book or movie or something about dates.
Well, I know you have to take your date to a place they like and kiss...
We got that done. | |
[He chuckles.] Well I hate to say this, but maybe we're done for now. |
There's always next time.
Well, we don't have to avoid each other anymore, so hopefully next time will be soon. Do you want me to walk you back to your room?
[she nods, if a bit slowly.] I'd like that. |
A-alright. [He takes her hand and begins walking back to her room.]
[she smiles as they walk, maybe squeezing his hand ever so slightly on occasion. it's almost as if she's still trying to make sure this actually happened.] Today was really nice. |
[He squeezes back.] It was. I really had a lot of fun. |
...Thank you, Hope. | |
For what? | |
[gives him the sincerest smile.] Everything. |
[He's a bit perplexed by this, but he smiles back.] I should be the one thanking you for that Xion. |
You've given me so much, Hope. There are so many things I wouldn't have done, so many things I wouldn't have learned if I hadn't met you. I was never supposed to do any of this. You've been such a great friend to me since I met you, and... now you're my boyfriend... [coming from her own mouth, the word is still a little strange, she thinks, but she's getting used to it now.] I'm just so happy to have someone like you—no, I'm happy to have you around. So thank you. |
Xion... When I became a l'Cie, all roads seemed to lead to death. If I didn't complete my Focus, I'd either turn into a monster, or someone from the military would kill me. If I did complete it, I'd be a crystal for the rest of my life, which is pretty much just another form of death. But then I came here and... I've been here for months and I haven't turned into a monster. If I was going to transform, it would've been a few days after I came here atleast. But despite that, when Fang and I first got here, all we wanted to do was leave. But then I met you. You were my friend, and you made it hard for me to want to leave... now you're my girlfriend [Like Xion, he's still not sure if he likes using that word so casually, but he DOES like using it] and now I never want to leave. Because you gave me something I always wanted. You gave me hope. Hope that I can live a normal life with someone I love. [His eyes become regretful for a moment, but he looks into Xion's eyes and feels confidence flowing into him.] And even if I did leave, somehow for any reason... [He squeezes Xion's hand again.] I promise, I'll always come back to you. I don't care how, or how long it takes, but I will. You've become so important to me Xion.... the most important thing in my life. There's no way I can ever leave you. |
[she stays completely silent during his talk. she's not really one for words in a situation like this, anyway. her actions speak louder than anything. the fact that someone loves her, that she's become the most important thing in Hope's entire life... it means the world to her. she's finally found her place in the world, a reason to exist, a reason to live.] [still without a word, she steps forward and throws her arms around him. her embrace is both firm and soft. it's like she never wants to let go. she wants to hold onto this as long as she can. if they could stay in this moment forever, everything would be perfect.] [Hope may notice something different about Xion's chest as she puts her body against his, something that was never there before. not something visible—more like a sensation. more like a feeling.] [it's faint, like it's new and weak, like it's just been born—but it's there.] [a heartbeat.] |
[While Hope wasn't expecting the gesture, he doesn't hesitate in returning it...] [And then he feels it. That sensation in her chest. And it makes him happier than he's ever felt ever since he set foot on this ship.] [He hugs her even closer, just as afraid to let go as she is. And he whispers in her ear.] I knew it. I knew you had a heart! |
[it takes her a second to register the words. she blinks a couple of times. a heart?] [... a heart?! that beating, that something in her chest... it couldn't be a mistake. Naminé and Axel were right—it's definitely a heart! she doesn't know how she knows, but that doesn't matter. what does is that she has one. even if it's just the fake heart that replicas are made with, a heart that has just as much existential merit as the Nobodies it was created by... a heart is a heart.] [for perhaps the first time, she feels happy.] [she whispers back:] I think you helped me find it. |
[He doesn't know what to say to that, but he doesn't feel that he needs to say anything. Instead he holds her closer and tells her what she already knows.] I love you Xion. |
I love you too, Hope. [there's nothing else to be said.] [the thumping in her chest, however fragile it might seem, does all the talking for her.] |
