[she falls silent for a while, trying to figure out what to say—]

Do you want to go get some ice cream? It'll be my treat.

Great! When do you want to go?

Hmm... Whenever you're free, I guess. I'm not exactly busy.

[she laughs a little]

Me neither. Want to go now?

Okay.

[ice cream wins the day againnnn]

Where do you want to meet up?

At Pete's? It's right at the entrance of the mall.

Entrance of the mall... okay. I'll see you there!

[HANG UP!]

[And when Xion gets there, Maka is where she said they will meet. She sits at a table right near Pete's with her cheek resting on palm. Not exactly looking at the entrance to search for her friend. In fact, she's glancing off somewhere ahead of her -- obvious to anyone that it's nowhere in particular; a complete space out look on her face.]

[a short while later, Xion arrives in high spirits... but the smile on her face turns into a worried frown as she sees Maka.]

Maka—?

[Hearing someone call her name, Maka blinks to snap out of her thoughts and glances over.]

...? Oh, hey!

Is everything okay? You looked a little out of it there...

I'm fine, I'm fine!

[She stands up and pushes the chair in.]

-- Let's go.

[she wants to ask—]

[but she figures Maka will tell her when she's ready. they hadn't even gotten their ice cream, after all.]

Okay.

[And she starts to head off that direction to the ice cream place!]

[aaand initiating small talk.]

Ice cream always makes me happy.

I'm like that with smoothies.
